Update on Progress
Well, weight loss is my number one priority right now. I am doing well, although I wish it would go faster. I have lost 20 pounds so far. My clothes are falling off of me! That is good in some ways--it really is working and I am losing weight and inches. However, I am now having a wardrobe dilemma. I am in the middle of my weight loss goals. My plan: lose a total of 40 pounds by my 40th birthday. I am halfway there. It took about two months to lose 20 pounds, and I hope to repeat this in the next two months. It isn't time to buy a lot of new clothes, at least not yet. I did buy a new pair of jeans--it is nice to wear a smaller size, and my old jeans just were way too big. But I still look forward to buying another pair when I go down a few more sizes.
You know how it is. Most of us have two wardrobes in our closet: fat clothes and skinny clothes. A lot of us don't have "in between" clothes, though. In my case, I got rid of MOST of my really skinny clothes. I mean, they were from 20 years ago! The sizes were very different then--3s and 5s from the early 80s are now 0s and 2s in today's world. Crazy, isn't it? Plus, who wants to wear clothes from 20 years ago anyway! Even if they are coming back in style! So, I don't have very many "skinny clothes" left, but I did keep a couple of pairs of jeans through the years. Not the tiniest ones--wish I still had those! Talk about great motivation!
As for my "fat clothes," they aren't HUGE, but they definitely don't compliment my figure. Pants and jeans fall off and are very baggy--I COULD wear them with a belt, but it looks ridiculous. Kind of like a kid wearing an adult's clothes that are way too big! Shirts and blouses--it's good that my blouses don't gap at the buttons anymore, but really big shirts look more like maternity tops now. And don't get me started on the tuck in or not tuck in issue. For years, I looked ridiculous tucking shirts in! But now, letting them hang out just makes me look bigger than I am. I did buy a few cute shirts recently that are "fitted"--LOVE wearing those! They make me feel much skinnier than when I wear the bigger draping shirts. Dresses--I had several dresses that were casual and comfortable--but when I was bigger, I often was asked if I was pregnant!! Argh! Nothing is more embarrasing than being asked that question and NOT being pregnant!! I guess they were cut a certain way--higher waists, and full and flowing, so I looked MUCH bigger than I was. Plus, since I do seem to carry my weight in my belly, it just added to the "maternity look." At my heaviest, even dresses that were cut slimmer weren't flattering--I carried a "fake baby bump" and still looked pregnant no matter what I wore! That is getting much better, but I still am working on that area. I hope to get flat abs one day, even if it involves surgery!
So none of my bigger clothes fit me very well right now, I can't wear my "dream sizes" yet, and I don't want to buy a lot of "in between sizes" either. I am currently "wardrobe challenged." That's ok, because I couldn't afford to buy much right now anyway. But boy do I dream of the day when I have some money and wear the size I dream of--THAT will be one big shopping excursion!! And those new clothes will be a HUGE motivation to maintain my ideal weight. If I want to wear my nice new clothes, I'll have to maintain my new size. I dream of that day!! Until then, at least my shoe size has stayed fairly consistent through all these years. I guess I can buy a couple of pairs of "skinny jeans" that I can wear now, a few fitted shirts that make me feel thin, and several pairs of fabulous shoes to go with it all! As for dresses, I'm not sure which way to go. It is hard to find something that really looks good on me right now. Maybe I will spend a day trying on various styles and sizes until I find the right one--then I guess I will wear that over and over again until I finish losing all of the weight. That is my problem now--all I can do at the moment is repeat the same few outfits again and again until I reach my ideal size. At least I really can see all of this effort paying off! :)
